193 Countries Adopted First Global Agreement on Artificial Intelligence Ethics.

All member states of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have adopted a historic agreement that defines the common values and principles needed to ensure the healthy development of Artificial Intelligence.

Today, artificial intelligence has become a part of our lives in every field, from booking flights and applying for loans to driving self-driving cars. According to UNESCO, artificial intelligence is also helping to combat global problems such as climate change and world hunger, in addition to supporting government and private sector decision-making.

“We are seeing increased gender inequality, ethnic prejudice, threats to reputation and privacy, and the use of unreliable artificial intelligence technologies in law enforcement,” UNESCO said in a statement. Until now, there were no universal standards to answer these problems.

“UNESCO will support its 193 Member States in practice and ask them to report regularly on their progress and implementation,” said Audrey Azoulay, head of UNESCO.
